I had in mind of not updating the class website anymore especially as the school year has just finished. But I had second thoughts. I wish to say a big thank you to all but especially to all children in class and their parents. I never received so many presents at the end of the year. Many of the children wrote a thank you card. The words were truly touching.
All in all we had a good year together. I hope I did make a big difference in the lives of children and their parents.
Another thank you goes to the Head of school who was present for some creative lessons and she truly enjoyed the experience. The head’s presence was a big boost to children as they tried to perform in a special way in her presence.
A few children who wish to have a unique summer together with their families are kindly requested to visit the website of the Malta Tourist Information site where various activities are going to be held. Just click HERE.
Colourful Flags bring joy and fun during the morning assembly June 21, 2012

add a comment It was a memorable assembly on Thursday 21st of June as we had many colourful flags. Children waved flags of different countries. The most popular flags were those of Malta, Italy and England. Tension is getting really high as on Sunday 24th of June the national teams of Italy and England face each other in an exceptional football match. In Malta it’s the match of the century as the majority of the Maltese people are strong supporters of either the Italian or English national teams.
We wish to say a big thank you to the head of school who is truly a charming person because although being a head of school where she faces all sorts of problems and challenges, she likes to crack jokes with all. In fact in the assembly there are moments when she delivers a serious message, and other moments when she unites children, teachers and all staff by sharing a joke or two. This morning was no exception but we managed to capture the best photo of the year : the Head of school next to the Italian flag!!!
We end our updates to the class website for this scholastic year with this post. We wish Happy Holidays to all!

It’s not that easy for some children to tell a story which is easily understandable. Sometimes they forget what happened and sometimes they can’t put one action after another or else their story doesn’t make sense.
This is easily noticeable when it comes to giving instructions. It’s not only for children though because reading instructions on how to use a washing machine, mobile phone, how to find a particular place in a city etc….sometimes it’s a daunting task!
One of the exercises in the benchmark exams is giving instructions. Hence our children are practicing giving instructions for various reasons. Here are some links which give examples of instructions:

There is going to be a science assessment in all year 6 classes. Ours is going to be on the 17th of May. It’s not just another subject or else something else to study but rather to enhance the skills of our children to experiment, jot down notes, think and write their own conclusions.
We need to help children to discover experimental skills rather than wait for the answer given by the teacher or parents. Children who like to experiment, question, think……are prone to achieve higher marks and better success in life.
We are providing some sites, suitable for their level. Obviously with search engines one can find many more.

Children in year six are now doing a more practical approach for learning. They are drawing, writing, talking, discussing, acting about adverts. They are trying to learn the art of doing an advert. As this involves a new exercise the lessons are spread over a period of time. Here some links which help them understand the main ingredients of a good advert:
Good Practice from students April 9, 2012

add a comment Although teachers, were, are and are going to be important for teaching to take place, we always encourage the student to be highly active in the teaching process. The lessons are done in class for all students. Some of them do the minimum required. Others are not satisfied with the teaching received in class and they look for alternative types of teaching, books etc….Others tell their mum what they have learned in class and in the process they will be revising their own knowledge.
In this case it was Nico Kast who asked a member of his family to bring to class some equipment used in the Second World War. Students could touch with their own hands and see with their own eyes the old equipment. It is this type of learning that we wish to encourage. The student wants to know more by using all necessary experiences and tools in order to understand better what has taken place in class. One other photo shows a visit by other students (on their own), to a historical building where they took a photo and wrote a few lines about it.
