We had a great time in class when children showed their creativity by using puppets in order to practice dialogue. Some of them came with up with excellent ideas. We hope that they’ll use what they’ve learnt in the exam.

Children like parties so much! They like to go out on hikes, play a match of football, watch a movie together, go for a walk, a sleepover, to hang out in the main square etc……Surely somebody has to take an active role by organising simple everyday events.
One of the exercises in the coming benchmark exam is an invitation. Children could be asked to write an invitation to an event. Consequently they have to learn to put down the basic information for such an event.
We are providing some interesting events for children in order to write invitations. As usual we are providing some interesting links….

Parents who try to do home lessons or revision especially at this time of the year, know from experience that children get bored very easily during lessons. After a whole day at school, lessons or exercises are the last thing that children look for. That is why we present lots of links to educational games in our class website. Children never say no to games. Without knowing it they would be practicing multiplication or division for an infinite number of times as long as they keep playing on the computer or mobile phone.
With ICT we understand all modern equipment with which one can communicate. Hence we don’t wish to forget one important aspect: the mobile phone. In year 6 most children are getting a smart mobile phone. Although we wish to make it clear that no parent should feel the pressure to do so, yet for those who bought one or are thinking of buying one, did you consider the mobile phone as a learning tool ? I think most of the people do not.
Our message today is to show people where to get FREE educational games in order to enhance their child’s learning and understanding. These are compatible with Android operating system. We prefer the android OS as it is similar to Linux, consequently it is FREE and customizable. Beneath are the links to educational games.

It’s not that easy for some children to tell a story which is easily understandable. Sometimes they forget what happened and sometimes they can’t put one action after another or else their story doesn’t make sense.
This is easily noticeable when it comes to giving instructions. It’s not only for children though because reading instructions on how to use a washing machine, mobile phone, how to find a particular place in a city etc….sometimes it’s a daunting task!
One of the exercises in the benchmark exams is giving instructions. Hence our children are practicing giving instructions for various reasons. Here are some links which give examples of instructions:

The new benchmark exams for year 6, could ask children to prepare a slogan. Slogans are short, often memorable phrases used in advertising campaigns. They are claimed to be the most effective means of drawing attention to one or more aspects of a product. It could be used in other aspects of life: politics, education, sports etc….
Slogans could be used effectively in education so as to help children remember something which should be important in life.
We are providing a link in order to stimulate children to think about slogans. Just click HERE.

As part of our preparation for the benchmarks exams, our children practiced live adverts. We are truly proud of their achievement. The way they acted was truly incredible. It was the first time in front of the camera and the first time doing live adverts. Some of these children have a different language as their mother tongue, so expressing themselves in English was not so easy. The videos were taken by an amateur video camera. These children have a bright future. We wish them well!

There is going to be a science assessment in all year 6 classes. Ours is going to be on the 17th of May. It’s not just another subject or else something else to study but rather to enhance the skills of our children to experiment, jot down notes, think and write their own conclusions.
We need to help children to discover experimental skills rather than wait for the answer given by the teacher or parents. Children who like to experiment, question, think……are prone to achieve higher marks and better success in life.
We are providing some sites, suitable for their level. Obviously with search engines one can find many more.

Children in year six are now doing a more practical approach for learning. They are drawing, writing, talking, discussing, acting about adverts. They are trying to learn the art of doing an advert. As this involves a new exercise the lessons are spread over a period of time. Here some links which help them understand the main ingredients of a good advert:

Although teachers, were, are and are going to be important for teaching to take place, we always encourage the student to be highly active in the teaching process. The lessons are done in class for all students. Some of them do the minimum required. Others are not satisfied with the teaching received in class and they look for alternative types of teaching, books etc….Others tell their mum what they have learned in class and in the process they will be revising their own knowledge. In this case it was Nico Kast who asked a member of his family to bring to class some equipment used in the Second World War. Students could touch with their own hands and see with their own eyes the old equipment. It is this type of learning that we wish to encourage. The student wants to know more by using all necessary experiences and tools in order to understand better what has taken place in class. One other photo shows a visit by other students (on their own), to a historical building where they took a photo and wrote a few lines about it.
